Karonmajigi

Karonmajigi is a community in Abuja which comprises mostly low-income earners with the major ethnic group being Gwandara.

Our needs assessment revealed that many women in the community required capital to start, invest in and sustain their businesses. We also discovered that family planning is one of the most pressing health needs for women in the community as they showed poor knowledge of the available family planning methods.

Therefore, we carried out an outreach program with a medical team to educate the women on the various available family planning methods. The medical team made demonstrations of the different methods and answered burning questions the women had.

We also gave women in the community interest-free microcredit loans to be paid back in monthly instalments. For us, it has been admirable to see their independence and confidence grow as they continue to advance their family’s wellbeing, health, education, and economic security.
