Micro-credit Program (MCP) for Rural Women

Dunes Foundation

The project aims to ensure women have access to and control over valued resources, that yield multiple benefits not only for them but for their families and communities.

Studies have revealed that women constitute most poor groups within rural communities where 80% live below the poverty line. This could be attributed to the low level of education, unemployment, discrimination, and assigned gender roles faced by women in their various families and communities. Hence, women may struggle to meet up to their needs and those of their families leaving them desperate to support their families. Furthermore, they are met with significant barriers when trying to access financial services.

This program provides small-scale interest-free loans to women to invest in businesses of their choice. These loans are accessible to all women and do not place emphasis on collateral, ownership of a business, or all the stringent problems of loan applications.

The project aims to ensure women have access to and control over valued resources, that yield multiple benefits not only for them but for their families and communities. It also promotes entrepreneurship among women which stands as a means to sustain a healthy economy and environment.
